OLD NEWS ARCHIVE

March 2007
New shows, new songs. Some not-to-be-missed performances coming up including with Baltimore's legendary The Fuses, with even more legendary punks Pere Ubu, and at the most legendary Harvard University in April. (plus a show in Brooklyn in April) Check our MySpace page to preview some new songs from our forthcoming CD, Ragged Rubble.

January 2007
Excellent show coming up on January 20. Blackie Knight & The Daylites have reunited at last and are joining Double Dagger, Ecstatic Sunshine, Yukon, and Salad for a night of good times at the Nerve Center house in Baltimore. Did we mention that it's free?

Thanks to everyone who came to our New Jersey and Brooklyn shows last weekend. We had an awesome time. Mark your calendars for our last Baltimore show of 2006 and also our last show ever at the Talking Head. Sadly, the Talking Head will be shutting it's doors at the end of the year. It's one of our favorite places to play, and despite it's bad name, the club will be sorely missed. The show is being booked by Wildfire Wildfire and should be a great line up.

10-15-06
Punk Rock vs. Swiss Modernism: The Art & Design of Double Dagger is a retrospective of most of the design work created by Post Typography for Double Dagger and related musical projects. This art show will be on display at Millersville University in Pennsylvania during the month of November. Double Dagger will be playing immediately following the opening reception on November 8. See the shows page for more details.

A big thanks to everyone who came to all of our shows on tour and in Baltimore as well as the last Materials show. We had a great time. If anyone has any photos of us, we'd love to see them. Send us an email. Also, our friends The Mathematicians are back in town in September. They're one of the most fun live bands, so you should definitely come check it out.

AUGUST TOUR!
We're teaming up with Dan Deacon, Videohippos, and The Deathset to bring the Sound of Baltimore to your town in August. We'll see you there for total awesomeness.

BIG SUMMER FESTIVALS!
We're playing a plethora of festivals this summer. In July Whartscape is Wham City's answer to Artscape, bringing the noise with bands such as Japanther, Aa, Human Host, Cex, and Dan Deacon. Then in July we're teaming up with Videohippos and The Deathset to take a Balti-tour out to Chicago to play Mauled By Tigers Fest with a whole bunch of awesome bands. Check out our shows page to see if the "Sound of Baltimore" is stopping in your town. Then in September we'll be back in Baltimore for Hampden Fest with The Oranges Band, Water School, Pony Tail, and many more. It's all going to be so awesome, I need to take a deep breath and relax.... ahhh...

7-6-06
Also, in addition to ordering our old CD from Morphius (see below), I just noticed that you can now download tracks from Apple's iTunes store.

5-29-06
We're finishing up the recording for the new album in the next few weeks, in the meantime we have a limited number of lo-fi boombox-recorded tapes for sale with a preview of some of the new songs. Email us if you're interested or pick one up at our next show. We're out of the first CD, but some are still available through Morphius. Get them before they're gone for good. Thanks again to everyone who came out to Current Gallery on the 26th--- it was a great show.

5-4-06
Philly/Jersey/Delaware people, come see us in Philly on Tuesday with Shoplifting. This is our first Philly show in almost two years, so don't miss it. Plus, Shoplifting rules, so all the more reason to come.

4-1-06
Just because we're on MySpace now doesn't mean that we're going to stop updating this website... That said, you should add us to your "friends" list.

3-28-06
We've posted a few MP3s from our recent live performance on WFMU. You can listen to them on the media page. We also have a few choice shows coming up in the next month or so in Baltimore, Philly, and College Park including ones with Agent Orange and Shoplifting. See you there.

2-18-06
Hey, we're playing live on WFMU on March 23. For those of you who aren't familiar with WFMU, the aforementioned is perhaps the best radio station to grace the planet's airwaves. If you're in the NY/NJ area, you can tune in at 91.1 or 90.1 FM. Or if you live elsewhere, you can listen on the internet at www.wfmu.org. We'll be playing on Pat Duncan's show at 11:00 PM. In addition, we're setting up some shows in New York and New Jersey area for the following weekend, so stay tuned for the venues. A big thanks to Scott Russell for the photograph of Nolen's glasses gracing the splash page of the site. You can see more of Scott's excellent handiwork on the photos page where additional photos of Nolen's glasses can also be seen.

11-21-05
Yay, more shows! December 1 at the Talking Head with The Sentimental Favorites' C.W. Roelle providing the flow and Joe Beats (of Sage Francis fame) providing the... well, beats. The ever lovely Kim++ opens the evening. And speaking of Kim, come see her team up with Nolen and Bruce when Materials play Wham City on Dec. 10 with Pony Tail, Dan Deacon, and Princess. 1511 Guilford, 8:00 PM. And come back to the same building, just one floor up to see DD rock with em-effin' Japanther and Videohippos. Enough with the fucking MySpace links already...

9-29-05
We're playing a few shows in Virginia and North Cackalacky in October. Some of the shows are with More Dogs (an awesome Baltimore band) and USA Is A Monster. You should come check them out. Wear your rock socks. Also, we're playing a benefit show for Broadcloth on November 5, here in Baltimore. This show is going to be with More Dogs, Videohippos, and one more TBA (best band name ever). This show is also going to be the opening for the exhibition, Stitched: Craft/Design/Art, organized by Broadcloth and featuring contemporary embroidery by artists from the U.S. and the U.K.

7-30-05
Excellent shows coming in August... Double Dagger is playing with Scalpels (awesome band on tour from Chicago) on the 5th. Materials (Bruce, Nolen, and Kim from Kim++ and Human Host playing technically-impaired post-pop on toy keyboards) is playing a handful of shows around town in the coming month. We write the chorus, you write the verse.

6-19-05
We've put a bunch of awesome new photos up on the photos page. To speed loading time, we've moved some of the older photos to a separate page, but they're still there if you want some Dubin action. Plus we now have our own, personal animated GIFs!!! Oh, and if you're in town in July you can catch us opening for Boz II Men at Artscape. This will probably be your only chance to watch Double Dagger while gorging yourself on funnel cake.

5-15-05
Thanks to Maggie for the patriotic photo taken of us at Cooper Union. If anyone else has photos that you've shot of us at shows, please send them to us, because we'd love to see them. Three good shows coming up. May 23 we're playing an early show at Charm City Art Space with No Things, members of Liars new band, who will surely be awesome. In June we're playing a benefit for breast cancer research (also at CCAS) with Fascist Fascist, The Spark, Pissed Jeans, and Air Conditioning. The following week, we're heading down to DC for Navies' record release show. If you haven't seen Navies, you're missing out, and their new record is sure to be awesome. See you there.

4-7-05
We've got some sweet sweet shows coming up including a very special Post Typography lecture-cum-Double Dagger performance at Cooper Union art school in New York. This one is free, so you really have no excuse to miss it. The following day come to Mike from Hunchback's birthday party in New Brunswick-- leave your irony at home. Click the L for more complete show listing. Also, we're trying to work something out for Saturday, April 30, so email us if you can help.

2-27-05
We've got a show coming up on Saturday, March 12 at Charm City Art Space. We're really excited about this show because we're playing with some great bands-- Hunchback (who our friend Maggie calls "the best band in New Jersey"), The Sentimental Favorites (former Baltimorean wire artist Sonny Roelle returns with a guitar and backing band), and The Thinking Toys (excellent up-and-coming Baltimore band). This is going to be a good time, so you should come.

12-27-04
We've put a whole bunch of new stuff up on the site including new posters, photos, and a video shot while on tour in Albany by Tim from The Mathematicians. Plus, for those of you whoe are too lazy to bother with the whole putting-a-stamp-on-an-envelope thing, you can now order CDs and shirts directly through this site via PayPal.

Be sure and check out the interview with us appearing in the February issue of Metropolis magazine. Metropolis is a magazine devoted to "Architecture, Culture, Design" and the occasional rock band. The February issue will be on newstands around January 20.

11-22-04
Tour was amazing. Thanks to everyone who helped us out and hung out with us along the way. Hopefully we'll post some photos/tour diaries/etc soon. In the meantime, we're playing a show on Thursday, Dec. 2 at Millerville University in Pennsylvania. Double Dagger will be preceded by a free design talk by Post Typography, so come check it out.

10-14-04
We're on tour!

10-10-04
Hey, our show with BARR at Sarah Lawrence College on Sunday Oct. 17 just got canceled. Can anyone in the CT/NYC/RI area help us out with a last minute show or get us on an existing bill? Email us! Otherwise, come see us on tour.

10-1-04
Final tour schedule has been posted! Come to our shows and heckle us! -DD

9-25-04
We still need help with shows in Providence/Connecticut and the Vermont area. Check the tour schedule for more info and latest tour dates. We would be most grateful for any help. Otherwise, you should come see us play next month!

We've added a new live recording of "Camera Chimera" to the MP3 page.

8-19-04
Northeast tour coming in October! Check the Shows page for a list of dates. We still need help with a few shows, so if the date has an asterisk next to us, you should email and hook us up with a show!

7-19-04
We've got a show coming up on Sunday at the Ottobar with semi-legendary British art-punk innovators The Homosexuals. Joining us on drums is Lee Ashlin, formerly of Baltimore's The Fuses. Don't be square.

5-20-04
Thanks to everyone who came to Brian's last show, and all of the bands who played. We had a truly awesome time. And if you missed it... then you're a sucker. We got reviewed in last month's Punk Planet. Though we aren't really sure what the hell this guy's trying to say, it seems to be good! (and he calls us PoMo!) Come see us along with guest drummer Denny Bowen (of Economist) at the Supreme Imperial on June 2 w/ The Thermals. Also, catch the first performance by Bruce and Nolen's new side project Materials at Charm City Art Space on May 30.

5-4-04
Is there anyone with a video camera who would be interested in taping one or more of Brian's last shows? We'd really like to have video, and none of us have access to a camera. Contact us if you're interested-- we'd get you into the show for free, pay for tapes, and hook you up with some free stuff.

4-23-04
We've got three totally awesome shows coming up. And I'm not just saying that either, 'cause these shows are going to rule with their fun-ness. The Baltimore shows are also going to be Brian's last shows with the band, so we really really want you to show up and create some ruckus to send Brian off in style. Also, check out some sexy new photos on the photos page.

3-25-04
Seems like this is the month of shows getting canceled. Sick Lipstick breaks up, Black Eyes cancels their tour dates, and our New Jersey show falls through. But we're still gonna be in New York on Sunday, so get your ass over to Siberia and rock the fuck out. For those of you in Baltimore and DC, we're going to be playing a couple of shows in the area with Japanther, so check back soon for more details.

2-17-04
We're trying to set up a show in NYC on Sunday, Mar. 28. Can anyone help us out with this? Or anything on Mar. 27 in Philly or New Jersey? Drop us an email: shiftoption7@yahoo.com

New shows added.

1-13-04
Apparently we've been reviewed in the latest Maximum Rock N Roll, but I haven't seen it yet.

Our shows in the Northeast have been postponed for the time being. We're still going to be up in your business, just not this month (hopefully when it's slightly warmer).

Everyone had better come out to our show on Thursday. We don't want to hear anyone whining about it being cold as an excuse to stay home. We want to see you there.

12-21-03
We've got a few new shows coming up including a weekend in the Northeast. Check back soon for more info.

There are some great new photos on the photos page, and also some new links in the press section, including a City Paper award for Top Ten In Local Music. Woohoo, we're famous.

11-28-03
Welcome to the brand spanking new Double Dagger site. It's still coming together, so let us know what you think. There's some bug with Mac Internet Explorer that's causing the scroll bars not to appear unless you resize the entire window. Use Safari, it's better.

Our full-length CD is out now on Hit-Dat Records. You can order it directly from us or from Hit-Dat for $10 post-paid. Our split 7" with Economist is getting repressed soon, so if you don't get one of the few remaining copies, you'll be able to get one in the near future.

We have a couple of MP3s from the new self-titled CD up on the MP3 page, and some tour photos on the pictures page.

If you have any photos you've taken of us in Baltimore or on the road, we'd love to see them. Feel free to email them to us.
