Wake Up! is a collection of classic soul and R&B songs covered by John Legend and The Roots. Label: Sony Music Entertainment
Our cover illustration incorporates the musicians and title text into a city scene that evokes the mood and time period of the original songs.
The back cover depicts the band performing on a rooftop.
Spike Lee turned our design into a giant stage set for a special performance and video.
Album design for Beach House's Thank Your Lucky Stars LP. Label: Sub Pop
The cover features a photograph of the lead singer's mother as a young girl.
Liner notes in the gatefold LP are created with stick-on letters and handwritten text, cut up and arranged by hand.
The LP was pressed on translucent green vinyl.
The CD version comes as a mini-gatefold.
For the Double Dagger EP, Masks, Post Typography created three different cover designs illustrated with unique sets of masks on front and back. Label: Thrill Jockey Records Official Selection, Communication Arts International Design Annual
The die-cut "eyes" of the masks change color depending on the orientation of the inner LP sleeve or CD face. Shrink-wrapped packaging is stickered with the band name, album title, and barcode.
The LP jackets are printed at actual scale with three different metallic inks—the packaging can function as a working mask once the record has been removed.
For this Future Islands 12" we used a striking long exposure photo of windswept trees at night that evokes lyrical imagery from the EP's title track. Photo: Bruce Willen. Label: Thrill Jockey Records
The EP's minimalist back incorporates delicate ink wash lettering similar to our treatment for Future Island's companion album, In Evening Air.
This cover for Alex Metric's Head Straight EP channels the spirit of 1980s synth-pop into a contemporary op-art alphabet inspired by impossible triangles. Label: Marine Parade Records
The 80's vibe keeps going on the back cover with this neon cassette tape.
Our package design for Future Islands' In Evening Air LP features ink wash lettering based on neoclassical typography that pays homage to the band's classic new wave roots, while bringing an unexpectedly delicacy, ephemerality, and a personal quality to the formal layout and lettering. Label: Thrill Jockey Records
Cover painting: Kymia Nawabi
The LP was pressed on translucent orange vinyl.
Explosive lettering blasts out of the telephone on the cover of Worldwide, TheDeathSet's first LP. Label: Counter Records
This CD packaging takes the unconventional form of a sixteen-page booklet, with the CD attached directly to a clear hub on the inside back cover. Pop-art style illustrations allude to the title while bright colors and vibrant custom lettering add to the album's lighthearted aesthetic. Brush lettering: Barry Curtis, Village Signs Baltimore
Double Dagger’s third album is titled MORE, a reference to the band’s hometown of Baltimore as well as the numerous attributes of the album that are more-so. Label: Thrill Jockey Records
A monumental MORE statue graces the front cover while the back is filled with a lengthy, hand-lettered list of the album’s “mores” (more feedback, more loud, more stolen mini-vans, more arguments, etc).
For this 7" by experimental punk band Thank You, we collected dozens of "Thank You"s from receipts, shopping bags, stickers, and signs. We then assembled all of these vernacular "Thank You"s into a big, punk-rock collage. Label: Thrill Jockey Records
We illustrated this cover of our 2011 Holiday Mix tape with this photograph of a KitchenAid mixing up a batch of cassette tape. More delicious than Christmas cookies!
Ragged Rubble, the second album by the post-punk band Double Dagger features louder, noisier, and more politically charged songs than on the band’s previous releases. Reflecting these changes (and the drummer’s love of maps), we created a shattered composition by rearranging America’s 50 states. Label: Thrill Jockey Records OFFICIAL SELECTION, PRINT MAGAZINE’S REGIONAL DESIGN ANNUAL
The abrasive color scheme is continued onto the back cover where the band name is drawn as if each letter were a state. CDs are offset printed digipaks, while the limited edition LPs are pressed on clear vinyl with hand-screenprinted sleeves.
Jimmy Joe Roche's Ultimate Reality is a kaleidoscopic, psychedelic video collage made with clips from Arnold Schwarzenegger films and scored by musician Dan Deacon. Label: Carpark Records
For the DVD packaging we designed a brightly-colored lettering mandala that incorporates the title of the film.
According to their bio, the electronica duo Pantyraid makes party music for the sexy people. So naturally, the band requested that their album artwork incorporate provocative photos of women. Label: Marine Parade Records
To keep things interesting we abstractly cropped "erotic" photos of women covered in chocolate sauce to create this bizarre and stand-out album cover for The Sauce that also incorporates a new Pantyraid logo design.
This cover design for an Alex Metric single, It Starts, "samples" a photo of the musician to form a dancy, Qbert-like grid. Label: Marine Parade Records
The artwork was repurposed for an EP of remixes. Label: Marine Parade Records
The album art for Alex Metric's dance EP, Deadly on a Mission, is what happens when James Bond meets 1980s key-tars. Label: Marine Parade Records
